Matson Yet To Confirm Fiji Job

Crusaders assistant coach Tabaiwalu Matson has yet to confirm plans to join the Vodafone Flying Fijians in preparation for the 2015 Pacific Nations Cup and 2015 Rugby World Cup.
This comes after Flying Fijians head coach John McKee indicated his intentions last month to bring the former Fijian 15s rep in as assistant coach.
In an interview with SUNsports last month, McKee expressed his desire to bring Matson on after the July 11 test with the New Zealand Maori All Blacks in Suva.
“I have been in communication with Tabai regarding coming to the Flying Fijians as the assistant coach for the Pacific Nations Cup, following his New Zealand Maoris commitments, and the Rugby World Cup and he is very keen to do so.
“We have not made announcement yet as the Fiji Rugby Union is awaiting the final okay from the Crusaders and the New Zealand Rugby Union as his employer.”
This sentiment was reaffirmed by Matson’s camp, declining to give any confirmation or announcement regarding this appointment.
Corresponding with SUNsports from Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday Crusaders Communications Manager Juliet Calder stated this.
“Unfortunately this isn’t something that Tabai is able to comment on at this point because there has been no announcement and there is nothing to confirm.”
Meanwhile, Matson is lined up as Colin Cooper’s assistant coach for the New Zealand Maori All Blacks’ team that is expected to tour Fiji for a test-match on July 11 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
