Nine teachers and 47 students and of the Nadi-based T.A Learning Centre got their hands dirty after a clean-up campaign at the picnic spot at Wailoaloa Beach yesterday.

Centre administration manager Taniela Tuitavua said the school, in collaboration with the Mamanuca Environment Society, did this to celebrate World Oceans and Environment Day.

“To mark this special and a very important day the school with three MES officers were part of the clean-up campaign at our very own Wailoaloa Beach,” Mr Tuitavua said.

He said MES had been running classes at the school every Thursday for three years now educating the children on environment sustainability and the sea.

“This is a good way to advocate on the sustainability of the environment and the ocean. They are taught at an early to be responsible for looking after our ocean and the environment. They are also taught the first air we breathe comes from the ocean.”

Making pledges, making temporary compost, activities such as recycling bottles, art and craft are part of learning to keep the environment clean and the prizes and goodies are at stake. MES project manager Marica Vakacola said they marked World Oceans Day with TA Learning Center where the students and teachers came out and did a beach clean-up.
