A group of US navy personnel from U.S Naval Hospital Ship Mercy undertook voluntary clean-up services at the Bilo Battery gun site in Lami yesterday.

Apart from providing free medical services, the US Navy Hospital Ship is involved in community services and the clean-up at Bilo was part of their voluntary service in Fiji.

Head of Archaeology for Fiji Museum Elia Nakoro said: “Few weeks ago, their officials approached us saying they wanted to be part of any voluntary service with us.”

Chief personnel specialist Larry Hopkins said he wanted to be part of this voluntary service. The group will provide further voluntary clean-up work at the Fiji Museum today.
