The next shipment of bauxite from Bua is scheduled for July.

Aurum Exploration (Fiji) managing director, Derek Qiu confirmed: “We have had three shipments of bauxite ouf of Fiji up to date. Now we have planned for one more shipment on July.”

The mining company is now working on the new sites in Nasarawaqa and Wainunu in Bua.

Mr Qiu said that with these areas they are also currently preparing for the extension of the current mine. He added that the rehabilitation works at the mine are also going well.

“It is in the first stage, we put the top soil back after mine, and we are planting some grass and vegetables to rich the soil with some fertilizers.

“We are also doing nursing of local trees; the second stage we are planning to do the tree planting trial,” Mr Qiu said.

Moreover, the company has employed around 80 workers from the Vanua Levu areas alone with around 15 foreign staff.

The company is planning to make 10 bauxite shipments to China this year.
