Nabukelevu-i-Ra village on the southern end of Kadavu yesterday celebrated receiving uninterrupted piped water supply after 20 years of asking previous governments for help.

The completion of water supply work was celebrated with Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) workers at the village.

Speaking from Nabulevu-i-Ra, headman (turaga-ni-koro) Maikeli Tuitubou said their long wait was over.

“Now all households have a tap each and the water supply is normal,” he said.

Mr Tuitubou said they had water, but the pressure was not enough to have normal supply to all households in the village.

“The team from WAF put in place another 20,000-litre tank and a new water main from their water source and this allowed water to flow to every household in the village.”

He said the WAF workers spent six weeks in the village.

The village contribution to the work was one-third and villagers catered for the WAF workers.

Mr Tuitubou thanked the Bainimarama Government for positively responding to their request.

He said they had asked past governments, but the response was always negative.

Yesterday, they traditionally farewelled the WAF workers and thanked them for the work completed.
