Cheyenne Braves Leg Injury To March

Cheyenne Fiu refused to let a leg injury stop her from taking part in the Xavier College cadet passing- out parade at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.

The Year 12 and 17-year-old student from Lautoka said she had been limping all week and did not expect to be awarded Best Female Cadet.

“I was shocked and I didn’t think they would pick me since I have been limping all week from an injury,” she said.

Cheyenne said her participation in the parade was important to her personally because this year would be her last at the school.

“I’ve been sacrificing just to take part because it was very important to me since I’m not continuing to Form Seven,” she said.

Proud mother Jacque Fiu said she was surprised when she saw her daughter march forward to receive her award. “I’m really proud and surprised but also sad since this is her last year,” Ms Fiu said.

She said this would not be the last time Cheyenne would be wearing military attire as she would be attending the Auckland Military Training Academy next year.

“She’s leaving next year in February to attend the Military Training Academy for one year,” she said.

“She came to Xavier College in Year One and I thought that Xavier would be the best choice for her.”

She said she hoped Cheyenne’s two younger siblings would follow in her footsteps.
