A delegation from the Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council will be meeting with the Methodist Church in Fiji next week to relay the changes to the Nadroga/Navosa High School.

The chairman, Ratu Waka Vosailagi, said now that the school would be turned into a technical college, it was only proper that they informed the church, in its capacity as landowner, of the change.

“Right now the province is leasing to the church,” he said.

Ratu Waka said the Ministry of Education (MOE) had made a very good presentation and the province had to play its part.

He said there would be a new tenancy agreement with the Ministry of Education on the change but they already had an agreement with the church.

“Our meeting next week will be for us to inform the church of the new change and also to tell them that our agreement still stands.”

The deputy chairman and chair of the education committee, Ilikimi Kunagogo, said one of the reasons they wanted the high school turned to a technical college, was that the acdemic results every year was not up to standard.

He said Government’s new policy direction for the MOE to set up technical colleges in all divisions and to close all vocational centres attached to secondary schools, should be accepted and it was beneficial for the province.

Roneel Mudaliar, the director technical college of Fiji told the meeting that they were looking at enroling 500 or more for the new technical college.

He said there would be no dropouts in schools as the technical college would continue their educatiuon in the field of trade.

In a message from the Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Kelera Taloga, the ministry has established three technical colleges in Labasa, Nabua and Nadi this year and plans to establish seven more.
