Fijians Battle To A Draw

Christopher Wasasala equalised late in the second-half to rescue the Vodafone national side to a 1-1 draw against Solomon Islands yesterday.
This was during the opening match of the Four Nations Friendship Cup at the Port Vila Stadium in Vanuatu yesterday.
Solomon Islands scored in the 24th minute and led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second-half, the national side changed its style of play and came back firing to score in the 72nd minute.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar said the first match was tough.
“It was our first game and the players did well to draw,”he said.
The inaugural Four Nations Cup also serves as the FIFA ranking event and Fiji’s win will improve their world-ranking going into the Oceania FIFA World Cup playoff later in the year.
In the other match, Vanuatu defeated New Caledonia 1-0.
Fiji’s next game is against New Caledonia tomorrow and they play host Vanuatu on Wednesday.
