Ratu Sivaniolo Naqesa was installed the Turaga Ni Yavusa Namacuku in Nasolo Village in Ba yesterday.
Ratu Sivaniolo is the fourth-generation stemming from Ratu Tevita Saunaqali, who had five sons, one of whom was the father of Ratu Sivaniolo.
The villagers also celebrated Ratu Naqesa’s 75th birthday with the chiefly installation.
Village headman Mosese Volavola said the appointment was given to Ratu Naqesa as all his elder siblings had died.
The traditional ceremonial installation was done in a separate house after which a ceremonial walk to the village community hall was undertaken by the new chief and his party.
“We had done all the traditional formalities and were looking forward to having him officially installed as the Turaga Ni Yavusa,” he said.
Mr Volavola said descendents of Ratu Tevita Saunaqali right up to the seventh generation were all present to mark the occasion.
“We are also happy that today (yesterday), his family is joining us in this double celebration because it’s his birthday,” Mr Volavola said.
