Seven journalist from the Pacific Islands are getting a first hand experience of the Indonesian tourism.

The Indonesian’s director for information and media services for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Siti Sofia Sudarma, said the visit to Indonesia was to promote mutual understanding of Indonesia and the people from other countries.

The Journalist Visit Programme is organised by the Directorate and Media Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia annually, where journalists from around the world are invited and this time the invitation was extended to the Pacific Islands.

“The JVP has invited seven journalists from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Solomon Island, Papua New Guinea and Fiji,” Mrs Sudarma said.

“The participant will visit main touristic destination in Indonesia such as the capital city of Jakarta and the well-known tourist island destination, Bali.

The deputy editor of the Independent Newspaper in Vanuatu, Evelyne Toa, described the visit as an eye-opener.

“It’s a lesson learned, not only for me but for all of us in Vanuatu. After meeting the Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection it’s a very challenging one because we in Vanuatu don’t have women in Parliament at the moment,” Mrs Toa said.

“Before, I could remember since Vanuatu had its independence back in 1980 we had only four women MPs, so yes it’s a challenge for us women in the Pacific.”

The tour was focused on gaining some more insight about the new and dynamic Indonesia and also to share the experience with the readers what the participants have learned during their visit.
