Dutta, Yee Ready For PNG Games

Lanky Tiara Dutta will be the youngest member in the Fiji women’s hockey team at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month.

The Year 11 student of Jai Narayan College in Suva, will be participating in her first Pacific Games .

She is looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m very excited,” Dutta said.

“I know this will be a tough journey for me, but I’m bracing for the challenge.

“This is my first Pacific Games. I’m very excited, especially to be the youngest member in the team, but I think it will be fun,” Dutta said.

Juggling school work and training five times a week has been challenging for Tiara who began her sports career as a national rep in 2013 when she was 14 years old.

“ Trying to concentrate on school work and training is very challenging for me, but there is time for everything.

“When I come to school I make an effort to concentrate and also when I go for training I make sure I give my best, but I have managed to overcome those challenges.

“The support from my team members have been really great and I think this is the best team I have ever been in because we encourage each other a lot,” she said.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Sally Yee will be part of Team Fiji’s table tennis group and hopes to improve on her confidence level.

“I have been preparing for months now for my first Pacific Games and there is a lot of sacrifices I have been doing to try and achieve my goal.

“My toughest opponent will be New Caledonia and Tahiti players.

“We have been training in the morning before school and in the afternoon to try and achieve what we wanted.

“Right now I have been working on my confidence level to meet the level of competition in PNG,” Yee said.
