Eight Years For Attempted Murder

A man who was found guilty for the attempted murder of his ex-wife was jailed for eight years by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Etonia Vosa, on January 2 this year, while staying with his ex-wife Vaciseva Seru at Howell Road, attempted to murder her.

Ms Seru was angry about an argument they had the previous night and she asked Vosa to leave.

Vosa asked the complainant for food and it was served to him in the kitchen by Ms Seru who then went to her bedroom.

He picked up a kitchen knife and when Ms Seru was coming towards the kitchen, then stabbed her several times on her upper body with the intention to kill her.

Ms Seru used her hand to defend herself and she fell in the bathroom. Vosa threw the kitchen knife when it was bent and Ms Seru pushed him and ran out of the house to call for help. She noticed her two children watching and crying.

Ms Seru’s medical report revealed that she received lacerations on her left forehead, upper left eyebrow, upper left arm, left waist, three cuts on her left posterior elbow and stab wound on her neck which was repaired by surgery.

Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando fixed a term of eight years imprisonment and also issued a domestic violence restraining order to protect Ms Seru.
