TOTAL Continues Sponsorship With Fiji International Tourney

TOTAL (Fiji) Limited will again provide all the fuel requirements for Fiji’s biggest sporting event, the Fiji International, after re-signing as the Official Fuel provider for the event to be held at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on October 15 – 18 this year.

Total (Fiji) Limited Managing Director Martin McCarthy said they were happy to continue their sponsorship.

“We are very happy to continue our sponsorship of the Fiji International in 2015. Total is committed to the development of Fiji and we see the Fiji International as a great platform to promote golf tourism in Fiji to the world.

“It is our pleasure to be a part of an event that is aiming to bring more in bound golf tourists to Fiji through their various promotional activities.” McCarthy said.

“We look forward to working together with the Fiji International team in ensuring that this year’s event is bigger and better than its inaugural tournament in 2014 and encouraging as many of our domestic consumers to be a part of this great event,” he said.

Total (Fiji) Ltd, is the latest in a string of partners to support the Fijian Government’s drive to increase golf tourism through the Fiji International including the InterContinental Golf & Spa Resort, Natadola, Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course, Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Ltd and Coca-Cola.

Fiji International head of Commercial Matt Porm said having partners like Total would ensure a successful tournament.

“Having Total (Fiji) Ltd, back on board is another boost for the Fiji International. Local business partners such as Total are essential to the successful hosting of the Fiji International.” Porm said.

In a large market where established multinational oil companies are leaving,

TOTAL is expanding its operations. TOTAL operates and distributes petroleum products in the South Pacific (Fiji, Tonga, New Caledonia, Wallis & Futuna, Kiribati, Western Samoa, French Polynesia and Papua New Guinea).

TOTAL is the largest Major Oil Company operating in the Pacific after the withdrawal of Shell from Fiji, Tonga and Western Samoa in 2006 and the withdrawal of BP in 2009.

About the Fiiji International

The Fiji International will be played at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course from October 15 – 18, 2015.

Boasting a million dollar prize purse, the tournament signalled Fiji’s official arrival onto the golfing world stage with the Fijian Government,

Fiji Tourism and Fiji’s number one golf ambassador, Vijay Singh, all making a push to put their country on the lucrative world golfing map.

As the newest tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia tours, the inaugural Fiji International was a resounding success.

120 players from 16 different countries came together at the spectacular Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course to take on the challenging layout, designed by local hero Vijay Singh, to compete in the regions first ever internationally broadcast tournament.

Other players included three time Major Champion Nick Price, Fiji’s Dinesh Chand, India’s highest ranked and world top-100 player Anirban Lahiri, China’s top ranked players Liang Wenchong and Wu Ashun, and two of Australia’s most successful and respected golfers Craig Parry and Peter O’Malley.

Hitting the very first tee shot of the Fiji International, Steven Jeffress went on to make history by sinking the last putt of the tournament as he birdied the 18th hole to claim the title by four shots from fellow Australian Jake Higginbottom.
