US Ambassador Opens Labasa Crushing Season
The United States Ambassador Judith Cefkin will be opening the Labasa Sugar Mill crushing season tomorrow.
General Manager Karia Christopher said preparations have begun for the event.
“The mill will start its test run today (Tuesday) and the official opening will be tomorrow,” Mr Christopher said.
He said the team was looking forward to the event as it was the first time for a foreign diplomat to open the mill.
“The Ambassador will also be tipping the first rail truck loaded with cane into the conveyor system.”
Meanwhile, the FSC executive chairman, Abdul Khan, said: “This is the start of the season and we are very pleased.
“Labasa is the first of the lot and then we come back and start the Rarawai Mill on the 23rd of this month and Penang which is the Rakiraki Mill on June 30 and Lautoka on the July 1.”
