Fijian bodybuilding rep to the 2015 Pacific Games, Isimeli Waqabaca.

Isimeli Waqabaca aims to make a difference at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month.

Waqabaca, 27, will be part of Team Fiji bodybuilding and fitness Fiji team and will be competing in the 75kg category.

He has been competing in the sport for the past eight months after making a switch from rugby league.

“I took up bodybuilding because I needed to improve on my fitness level and change my lifestyle,”Waqabaca said.

“ I also want to improve on my discipline. In rugby league I train from Monday to Thursday, play on Saturday and I always go out partying and have to restart my whole schedule again on Monday.

But now with bodybuilding I have to be consistent with my training.

The Yaroi, Matuku Lau native has been through a lot of obstacles.

His parents separated and he had to stay with his mother while his three other siblings are with his dad.

“This is my first Pacific Games and my aim now is to represent Fiji and make my mother proud.”

The former City Storm fullback has maternal links in Nawaikama in Gau needs to train to lose 2.8kg in two weeks.

“So far, so good I have been trying to lose some weight to get me on track for the 75 category. As of now my weight is 77.8kg and I have two more weeks to go to drop my weight down to 75kg.

“I’m very watchful of my diet and I’m also cutting down on water.”

As a proud Fijian, Waqabaca wants to have a Fijian song for his routine.

“I want to choose a Fijian song maybe a lakalaka (traditional dance performed by people in Lau) because I’m representing Fiji I have to choose a Fijian song,”he said.

“I’m working on my pose, I’ve to get better, need to do a lot of rehearsals.

“I want to dedicate all my achievements to God, my mother and friends who have been supporting me”
