The Lautoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry will conduct a business forum today for farmers at the Fiji National University (FNU) Lautoka Campus.

It is to help improve land use, yield and productivity, storage and reduction in food import.

Chamber administrator Mohammed Salim said presentations would be conducted by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Forests, the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), Fiji National University and Ba Provincial Council.

“Each available land would be shown on a map and how to utilise them for commercial purposes and for eco tourism since there are a lot of idle land,” Mr Salim said.

He said 250 participants would attend the forum.

“The aim is to look at ways to support our local economy. We want to encourage people that regardless of where you are working, you can also adapt a business perspective.

“We heard that FNU will highlight Fiji’s import rate and how we are wasting money as a country when we import goods that can be produced locally.” he said.

The forum will be from 8am-4pm.
