All VKB Records Computerised

The Ministry of ITaukei Affairs told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday that all the Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB) records are being computerised.
Ministry Permanent Secretary Savenaca Kaunisela said they were updating the VKB- deleting of all iTaukei deaths and registering new births.
“This is to cater for the equal and fair distribution of lease monies and as we speak the computerisation of the VKB is almost complete,” he said.
He said this was started as a project to safeguard records as they were kept as booklets which could be destroyed and then the need for fair distribution of lease monies came in and it strengthened the effort to computerise the system.
“Almost all names on the VKB are being computerised, from books to computer records,” Mr Kaunisela said.
“We are almost done with the Tailevu province and there are two officers who are working on computerising the link from the ministry so that data can be accessed by TLTB for fair distribution of lease monies.”
He said the two officers are working together to see that the records are updated at all times.
He said at the end of the day the updating of the VKB will rest with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and data passed on to TLTB.
TLTB general manager Tevita Kuruvakadua added that in terms of controlling lease monies being correctly and equally distributed, TLTB does not make any changes to the records.
“Input of data is done by the ministry of any new births, the individual parents have to take the details to the ministry and add their names and also if a member has passed away then it is upon the landowning unit members to get it updated.”
