Tanoa Waterfront Hotel Goes ‘Home Grown’

Growing fruits and vegetables is a step towards sustainability for Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka. They have taken the initiative to plant fruits and vegetables to do the best they can for the hotel and the environment.
The hotel’s ‘Home Grown’ -from the gardens of Tanoa Waterfront Hotel, fruits is supplied to the kitchen and are= served to guests as a fresh and healthy option for their breakfast.
Tanoa Waterfront Hotel’s General Manager Narend Kumar said there were benefits of their home grown project. This includes sustainable farming, less expenses and maximum use of their unused land around the hotel.
“We plant fruits like papaws, bananas and vegetables like egg plant, corianders and chilies. The garden is on spare land that is around the hotel and is managed by our gardeners and is open to staff members who want to help out.”
Mr Kumar said the hotel has a focus group, who brainstorms on things that can be improved around the hotel. This was where the idea of planting fruits and vegetables came up.
He added: “The project which started a couple of years back had stopped due to the dry season in the West but the hotel has its own water source so we have decided to start again.
“We try to do whatever is best that suits the environment so this is one of the initiatives and the hotel also participates in clean up campaigns to look after our surroundings.”
