3 Cases Reported To FICAC: Manager

Three cases from the Auditor General’s Reports 2007-2009 were reported to the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

FICAC Investigations Manager, Niko Bukarau, disclosed this yesterday.

He was responding on issues raised by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) about the AG’s reports 2007-2009.

Recommendation 1 by PAC calls on FICAC to provide a comprehensive report to it, to be tabled in Parliament. The report should outline actions taken specifically on cases raised in the AG’s consolidated reports from 2007 to 2009.

Mr Bukarau said the cases related to the Department of Immigration, Fiji Police Force and the Ministry of Local Government.

FICAC Chief Investigator Isireli Tagicakibau stated six previous cases of corruption were also referred to the commission from the previous PAC Committee. They were also part of the investigation.

Mr Tagicakibau said: “For those six cases, we have completed investigations, 1 of which was taken to court, 4 of which were dismissed because of insufficient evidence and the sixth one was in relation to the former Chairman of Agro Marketing Authority, John Law, who had left for overseas and has yet to return to the country.”

Meanwhile, Mr Bukhara added that the Commission has noted all three recommendations made by the Committee and this will help them in carrying out their role more effectively.
