Copyright Claim

There are some iTaukei musical groups receiving copyright money for the songs they sing. But do they have rights? Take this case.

A composer when asking about the copyright money was told that the group claimed it that sang the song.

In reply, he said he composed the song and gave it to the group to sing.

Lease change

A landowner who had given land to Government to resettle squatters has changed views. This landowner will want Government’s help in a new major project.

Government’s Resettlement Unit has stepped back and is waiting.

Draw the dots

Does this sound familiar? An urban youth network from a province in Vanua Levu based in Suva now questions the equal distribution of lease money.

The group wants those with responsibilities in the village like the Turaga ni Yavusa, Turaga ni Mataqali, to get more. It parrots the same issues usually raised by the Social Democratic Liberal Party.

There is a connection.
