President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau yesterday urged Team Fiji to win gold during the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month.

Reminding the 453 athletes and officials during the I-tatau (traditional farewell) at Government House, Ratu Epeli told the athletes the importance of their duty.

“Fiji is expecting gold not silver or bronze medals,” Ratu Epeli said.

“You have been training all these months and we expect the best from you,   even with the inclusion of New Zealand and Australia.”

He stressed how Team PNG was desperate to meet Team Fiji.

“I’ve been told PNG have prepared well in terms of infrastructure.

“I have also told them that Team Fiji is also coming prepared.

“You are there to perform and perform to the best of your ability. “And to those of you who will be going for the first time this will be your first international competition and expect it to be tough.

The President also reminded Team Fiji their performance will be monitored through the media and that athletes should put up a positive performance.

“We will be watching your performance on television, radio and newspapers. And on behalf of your families, friends and Fiji we wish you all the best.”

The first batch of Team Fiji contingent departs on Wednesday.
