More than 500 people braved the early morning cold weather in Suva for the annual Olympic Day Fun Run yesterday.

The event was held in conjunction with the inaugural National Sports Holiday and featured the theme Move, Learn and Discover.

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) officials were pleased with the good turnout.

“We are so grateful for the support and also to our partners FIJI Water, Goodman Fielder, and McDonald’s, as well prize donors BSP, Coca-Cola, Digicel, Pure Fiji and Vodafone,” FASANOC vice-president Vanessa Kilner said.

“Participants also discovered and experienced a wide range of sports in a fun and participative way, which will not only increase sporting membership but help towards promoting physical activity for healthy living.

“Sports volunteers manning the sports stations included current Team Fiji athletes from various sports including boxing swimming and athletics.

Sports Fair

The Sports Fair funded by the International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity Programme, was a hive of activity and gave children and adults the opportunity to try a sport at stations set up by Shop N Save Athletics Fiji.

Team Fiji athletics rep Avikash Lal crossed the line first with a time of 25;.02minutes while student Maia Ramsden won the female category, clocking in 35.08 minutes.

FASANOC thanked the contribution of volunteers on the day.
