Well known Muslim scholar Imam Afroz has told the Fiji Sun that he is against religious radicalization and extremism.

Mr Afroz openly condemned the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and those who support ISIS, Al Qaeda or terrorism to Islamic religion.

“ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. It’s a bunch of people who happened to be Muslims who are involved in politics of war,” Imam Afroz said.

“They are killing people but as I have again said that ISIS and Al-Qaeda didn’t arrive from vacuum.

“The politics of war that continues through tyranny and colonisation of US foreign policies, for example, are causing terrible terrorism in the world out there,” he said.

“Ultimately, the reality of ISIS is again a problem of the politics of war; it is not a problem in relation to a clash of civilizations or religions,” he said.

Imam Afroz is currently in Fiji to perform humanitarian work.
