Sports is an agent for social change and will continue to be a major vehicle for youth development in Fiji, says Laisenia Tuitubou.

The Minister for Youth and Sports made the comment during the official opening of the National Sports Day at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

“There is definitely no barrier to sports and there is most absolutely nothing that sports cannot achieve,” he said.

“It brought people of all races together time and time again and this, I can confidently, say will never cease.

“Sports is a fast-emerging industry, which holds great potential in creating new career pathways and for our local athletes.

“Today’s (yesterday) event is the culmination of our concerted effort to lessen the incidence of non communicable diseases (NCD) and to address unhealthy life practices, which is evident in our country.

“Government is working on promoting healthy lifestyle among all citizens of Fiji by encouraging people to live active lifestyles, play Pregular sports and adopt healthy living.”
