School students turned out in big numbers to celebrate the National Sports Holiday at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

The students enjoyed taking part in various activities.

“This year we selected 10 schools to be part of our physical and wellness exercise programme,” senior education officer/co-ordinator Waisake Tuicakau said.

“And the 1000 students have been practicing for two weeks to be part of the National Sports Day.”

Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou applauded the participation of students.

“Students should eat healthy food and do a lot of exercises in order to be healthy,” he said.

Gospel School for the Deaf students also took part in the event.

Year 7 teacher Ana Babitn said: “It was an opportunity for deaf students to be part of this day.

“We got together with Gospel Primary School and the instructors taught us how to do different exercise,” she said.
