Fijians impress against the Wellington Phoenix and the Premiers at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.
The tour, made possible with the kind compliments of Fiji Airways, saw Vodafone Fijian U23 side defeated Wellington Phoenix Premiers 2-1 as they prepare for the Pacific Games starting which start this Saturday.
The Vodafone Fijian national side, preparing for the Oceania World Cup playoff later this year, went down firing against Wellington Phoenix 1-2 boasted with A-League and top players from Europe.
Coach Carlos Buzzetti said Fijians have showed their class and are on the right track.
“The U23 side did really well and likewise the national side playing against New Zealand top professional side.
“Our players fare well and I’m extremely proud of my players,” Buzzetti said.
“We are doing our best to qualify for the Olympic Games and the World Cup and these players proved they can step up against top and quality opposition.”
“The U23 side played well to win and Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper was instrumental in the win as he played really well.”
Krishna showed his class and scored a scintillating goal in the 23rd minute. Phoenix came back firing and scored to drew 1-1 at halftime and sealed the victory 2-1 in the second half.
“I’m happy to play in front of my fans and I’m looking forward to score more for Fiji,” Krishna said.
Wellington Phoenix head coach Ernie Merrick praised Fiji.
“The Fijians really played well with Roy making big difference,” Merrick said.
“We have seen a lot of Fijian fans supporting Krishna and we are also looking at hosting our A-League game in Fiji too.
“We will take it to our board members to decide as the atmosphere in Fiji is really good.”
The Fijian U23 and national side play their last match against Wellington Phoenix on Tuesday at Govind Park before the U23 heads off to take part in the Pacific Games which starts on Saturday in Port Moresby.
