Burglary Tops First Quarter

The most prevalent crime in the first quarter of this year for the whole of Fiji is house break-in and burglary.

Commissioner of Police, Ben Groenewald said they normally compared crimes on a quarterly basis.

He said: “What we normally do is we compare crimes on a quarterly basis from January, February, March and April.

“In terms of some crimes there was an increase while for some other crimes there was a decrease.

“Overall we do have an increase in crime unfortunately; I think one of the issues that was a huge concern for us was the series of robberies and house invasion and burglary.

“We had a huge success in arresting people and since the last arrests of what I call syndicates there has been an immediate decrease in serious offences.”

He said the most prevalent crime was house break-in and burglary.
