Former Bulls and Blue Bulls head coach Frans Ludeke will join the Vodafone Flying Fijians coaching staff for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in September.

The 47-year-old South African stepped down as coach for the Bulls earlier in the week and is heading to Fiji to assist the Vodafone Flying Fijians who march into camp at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay today

Former Springbok captain and World-Cup winning lock Victor Matfield, who is eyeing the Bulls coaching job, revealed to South African media Ludeke was off to Fiji to help the islanders in the World Cup.

“It’s always sad to see someone go but sometimes the time for change comes. I’ve learned so much from Frans (Ludeke) and there are so many players who also learned a lot from him during the eight seasons with the Bulls,” Matfield said.

“I think he’s going to Fiji to help them with the World Cup and I wish him success with that as well.”

Fiji Rugby Union sources confirmed the South Africa report as ‘true’ but a press statement will confirm the appointment in the next few days.

Ludeke won the Super Rugby title twice, the first of those titles in 2009, coupled with being crowned as the Currie Cup champions.

Ludeke will be teaming up with former Flying Fijian Tabaiwalu Matson and head coach John McKee.

Fiji is in a tough pool with Australia, England, Wales and Uruguay. Fiji plays England in the opening match of the RWC on September 19 in Twickenham.
