Concern Over Chiefs’ Body

The iTaukei Affairs Board says it is concerned with the formation of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called the Bose Ni Momo Ni Vanua ni Yasana O Ba.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Apakuki Kurusiga yesterday said concerned about earlier comments by NGO spokesman, Turaga na Tui Nawaka, Ratu Asaeli Driu

Ratu Asaeli had told the Fiji Sun that they were trying to break away from Government and operate on their own, since they were registered.

“We just want to work on our own. This gives the chiefs a voice because in the council meetings, everything is controlled by government and there is no time for chiefs to air their concerns,” he said. He was referring to the Ba Provincial Council meeting.

Mr Kurusiga said while they were now an NGO body, the board would like to know what sort of activities they would be involved in.

He said that they would first check their registration and would closely monitor their activities.
