Effective today, Geoffrey Smith will take up the position of the chief executive of Fiji Television Limited.

The long-time journalist who began his career in 1995 had been acting chief executive since December 16, 2014.

He joined Fiji Television in 1999 and brings with him a wealth of experience in the media industry.

A number of other key appointments have been approved by the board as well, all effective today.

A statement from Fiji TV said the appointments were made in line with the future plans that the company envisages that will be driven by increase in local compelling content and new media technologies.

The board also announced the appointment of Mereoni Matavou as company secretary to the board for Fiji TV Group. She is a lawyer by profession and replaces Nashtenka Cavuilati.

Nitesh Chand has been appointed as general manager Corporate where he will be responsible for Finance, Sales, Human Resources and Training.

He is an accountant by profession and currently a CA with Fiji Institute of Accountants and a member of the Australia Institute of Company Directors.

Karen Lobendahn has been appointed as general manager International where she will be responsible for the local programmes production, content and news, current affairs and sports.

She brings with her wealth of experience in acquiring content for free-to-air and pay television services.

Serai Roxburgh has been appointed as general manager operations where she will be responsible for SKY Pacific, Pactok, Outside Broadcast and Information technology, in-house production and online services.
