Nightclub Owners On Offensive

Nightclub owners in the Suva and Nadi met at Down Under nightclub yesterday.

Numerous issues were raised during the meeting which are of national interest such as the opening hours of the clubs, how the club businesses operate and how they contribute to the Fijian economy.

Down Under nightclub owner, Chris Cooke said it was always better to look at the wider picture when it comes to business.

“We also contribute to the Fijian economy and as a whole in terms of tax, employment and nightclubs is one of the safest places to have drinks and with relation to the opening hours of nightclub to be reduced, I think this will cause a disaster,”Mr Cooke said.

“We usually open for at least 3 days until 5am in a week and this helps us to earn income which in return we pay our workers and our tax to the Government,”he said.

Mr Cooke added that it was important for people to be more informed of what really is happening.

“We look after our customers very well and we make sure that they are safe, what happens outside the club, we are not responsible for that and this where the Police come in, we all have responsibilities and we should be all work together.

“When people go out of the clubs, they buy drinks from elsewhere but in the end the night club is always been blamed, this needs to be re-looked at.”
