OPINION: Some Creative Ideas For The Fijian Flag
Tabua represents the iTaukei/Rotumans - Circle 1 represents the Indo-Fijians - Circle 2 represents Fijians of Chinese descent - Circle 3 represents Rabi and Kioa - Circle 4 represents other communities This represents the different peoples of Fiji and their historical settlement of Fiji.

Following the article of Archbishop Peter Loy Chong on symbolism, I think the symbolisms here represent each race.

The circle is in the Indian flag, the colour red is in the Chinese flag and the blue is in the Kiribati flag.

This will make people feel they are part of the flag. Perhaps there may be better symbols and someone who is an expert artist can draw all these up.

What are the most important symbols? They should make up our flag.

– Again the Tabua is the paramount symbol of Fiji

– The tanoa symbolises many things in the Fijian culture especially community, sharing and participation etc

– nThe coconut represents all

– Sugar-cane represents many things (industry, etc)

– Rice represents the staple food of Fijians of Indian and Chinese descent

– Yaqona is the most stable social drink of the country

– The plants are put in the form of a cross with the tanoa at the centre representing sacrifice and community life. Plants represent our history of economic sources and life sustenance. They represent the people of Fiji.

– Other symbols may be included but it would be too crowded

These are just some ideas to add to the critique of our new flag.
