The cadet programme helps educate students with important values for the future, says Commissioner Central Meleti Bainimarama.

Mr Bainimarama made the comment during Queen Victoria School’s cadet passing-out parade in Matavatucou, Tailevu yesterday.

The Commissioner Central said cadetship contributed to building a knowledge-based society.

“The military drills would impart to these students important values such as honesty, discipline, professionalism, sense of responsibility and instills a sense of patriotism for the students and the school,” he said.

“Cadet training has been part of Queen Victoria School during the past five decades,” he said.

There were 625 students on parade.

“I could not be happier to see you gathered here looking so impressive and smart and it is a sight that would have pleased those who have preceded you and have contributed significantly to the development of our country,” he said.

The Students were reminded to take with them the values they had learned and mastered from the drill they had gone through.

“Pass those values on to your children and share them with your collegues; the unique pride of being a Fijian in our stride to be a citizen of one of the best and most beautiful countries in the world,” he said.
