Opposition member, Niko Naiwaikula confirmed that a group of selected lawyers are now planning court action in the case of Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu regarding his 2 years suspension from Parliament.

Ratu Naiqama was suspended for derogatory remarks he made against Speaker to Parliament Dr Luveni in a SODELPA meeting in Makoi.

Mr Nawaikula said they were trying to prepare thoroughly for the challenge: “ We need to be very sure of the process that will take to get to Court as there will also be strong arguments from the other side of the House.

“This a decision made by the Opposition side and I suppose by the end of this week it should be filed,”he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Nawaikula also stated that the advocacy visit by Ratu Naiqama to the United States and later to Australia was made possible through the combined efforts of various organisations and SODELPA supporters.

“The Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama will be focusing primarily on the need to protect our group rights, things like the Great Council of Chiefs, our language, our name and our land.

Mr Nawaikula said that Ratu Naiqama will be visiting communities and creating awareness on those issues.

“From the US, he will be going over to Australia and hopefully when he comes back we will have awareness by the communities overseas of all races because group rights are legal and we need the support especially from our Indo-Fijians and other races.”
