Tawai Wins Fourth Gold

Tevita Wanono Tawai won the fourth gold medal for Fiji in weightlifting in the men’s 69kg category at the Sir John Guise Stadium Power Dome yesterday.
The Baba, Levuka native won gold in the clean and jerk clearing the bar at 157kg and won a bronze medal in his total lift of 267kg. Tawai finished in fourth place in the snatch event.
He attributed the win and success to his family.
“I want to dedicate this win to my family back at home and the lifters in Baba, Levuka for all their support,” Tawai said.
Tawai believed in himself and said he was expecting a gold medal despite being trained locally.
“Nothing is impossible if you believe in God and believe in yourself before going in I knew I was going to win a gold medal,” he said.
His next plan now is to book a place in the 2016 Rio Olympics in the Oceania Championships which will be hosted in Fiji in March.
“I aim to go to Rio and that will be my next stop.
Meanwhile, Maria Liku finished in fourth place in the women’s 58kg category.
