Former Vodafone Fijian 7s rep Benito Masilevu will make his debut against the Maori All Blacks on Saturday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

New Crusaders pivot Ben Volavola has also been included in the 23 member squad named by Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee yesterday.

McKee revealed the duo as part of the 23-member squad for the national side’s first major test at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

“Benito went from our sevens programme to play Top 14 in France with Brive,”\McKee said.

“He’s had a very exciting season in 15s. He’s scored a lot of tries and played really well.

“We’re choosing players on form and it’s his form coming out of the Top 14 competition but also his application to training since he’s been with the group, he’s trained very well.

“We have a lot of competition on the wing and we’ll be looking for a big game for him to see if he can make the selection for the Pacific Nations Cup.

“We have a lot of good wingers as well so it’s one of the most hotly contested spots going towards the Rugby World Cup.”

Also speaking at the team announcement, skipper Akapusi Qera added it would be a defining moment for both Masilevu and Volavola as they debuted in the national colours.

“They’ve got different styles of play that they can add on to the team. I know that they will contribute a lot on Saturday. It’ll be an honour for them to wear the Fiji colours for the first time and it’ll be a proud moment for their families to see them debut for Fiji right here at home.

“We’re treating this game as a very important game in our calendar this year especially since it’s the Maori team. They’re coming here to win.

“To play in front of our crowd is an honour for us and privilege for the boys who haven’t played for Fiji for awhile to show what they can add.

“We’ve done some analysis on their game and they did well against Japan. They’ll be coming out firing on Saturday so me and the boys are ready.”

The Vodafone Flying Fijians play the Maori All Blacks at 3pm at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva this Saturday.
