Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has congratulated Solomon Islands on the anniversary of its 37th Independence.
In a letter to his Solomon Islands counterpart, Manasseh Sogovare, Mr Bainimarama acknowledged his outstanding leadership of the country since the election last December.
Mr Bainimarama called for closer relations between the two island nations and said that he look forward to working together to solve mutual and regional problems.
“This is an opportunity for Solomon Islands not only to reflect on its history, but also to keep a sharp eye on its future. We see that future as characterised by a strengthening of the longstanding ties between our two nations and our people,” the PM said.
“I wish to also thank the Government and our other brothers in the Melanesian family for your firm support and understanding as we Fijians made our long effort to finally bring true democracy to our country. That support was critical, and we will always remember it.
“Solomon Islands have shown leadership and fine statecraft, and I convey this message to you today in the spirit of friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect,” he said.”
