The Sigatoka River Safari continues to make its mark in the tourism industry after being welcomed into the TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame.

This follows five consecutive years of being awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence.

The Certificate of Excellence award recognises businesses worldwide that consistently earn a top rating of four or higher, out of a possible five from TripAdvisor travellers. Only the top-performing 10 per cent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

Sigatoka River Safari, is a multi-award winning company offering half-day eco/cultural adventure transports on custom-built safari jet boats along the Sigatoka River.

The tours include visits to 15 villages from Monday to Saturday along the river – adventures into some great Fijian tales, history and iTaukei culture.

Company managing Director Jay Whyte said getting the TripAdvisor rating was a proud achievement.

“I am very honoured, very greatful and appreciative of this award. This is a tremendous effort by the team in providing services to the guests and the people in the villages,” Mr Whyte said.

The company also offers Off Road Cave Safari which is an adventurous track into a jungle cave in the Sigatoka Valley.

“We have a couple of caves outlined to start off in the tours later in the year,” Mr Whyte said.

Mr Whyte’s dream started off at the age of 13 when he first came to Fiji on a holiday with his family.

Since then he has fallen in love with the country hence his dream on the Sigatoka River Safari developed.

“I am so fortunate that my parents took me on trips during the holidays because that created a big dream in me.”

With 37 staff, five boats and six multi-skilled captains, the safari runs tours twice a day for six days.

“My staff members are a great asset to the company. They do a wonderful job because they bring the inside of Fiji to the people and I am super proud of them.”

The Safari first takes a road trip up Valley Road with friendly and enthusiastic staff with nick names like as ‘Lady Gaga’ who educate those travelling in an educative manner.

The 20-minute bus ride provides a good view of the valley and more knowledge of Sigatoka.

The Safari boat then takes the cruise up to the throat of the river, passing the mountain of marbles and many more pit stops.

The destined villages hold a great reality of life and the struggles of the local community in the very rural areas.

This is where modernization and technology does not play a part in the lives of the villages.

The traditional life of the local community is showcased in its very core existence.

The end of the safari is for sure not to miss out on the classic spins and some great photographs to cherish your great memories on.
