Vodafone Flying Fijians should expect a good test against the Maori All Blacks this Saturday, says Tabai Matson.

The former Flying Fijian centre, who is a member of the Maori All Blacks coaching staff, said fans should expect a good a good match up.

“The Maori All Blacks have a proud rugby history,”Matson said.

“I suppose you could call it a ceremonial team but for this team, a legacy of test matches against full internationals is very important.

“It’s a bit strange but it’s a great for me to be here with one of New Zealand’s national teams. And playing against my homeland is something unique for me,” he said.

Matson also played against the Maori All Blacks in Suva leading into the 1999 Rugby World Cup.

“Do very well in tough competition is very important as well. No matter what happens on Saturday it will be a good and very physical encounter and I think that’s great preparation for Fiji before going to the RWC.”

Matson will join the Vodafone Flying Fijians coaching staff for RWC later this month.

Maori All Blacks co-captain Hayden Triggs said they were not focussing on the outcome of the game.

“We’re focussed about what we can bring individually to the team but also adding to the legacy of the very proud jersey we’re pulling on and what we can add to that is our main focus,” he said.

“We’re focussed on coming together as a group; we’ve only had some boys, majority of the group for only one day. Fair skill for offloading and physicality in their running so that’s what we expect.”
