Team Fiji Va’a.

Team Fiji Va’a reps celebrated winning two bronze medals in the V12 (twelve-person canoe) 500m sprint event.

It was a significant achievement since the last Fiji win was at the 2003 Pacific Games in Suva.

This is the first time Fiji has won a medal in  V12 since the 2003 Pacific Games in Suva.

This was the women’s team’s second bronze medal, after taking the 3rd place in the V6 1500m sprint on Monday.

Theresa Avon also featured in the V1 500m final, coming 4th in a very close race with Tahiti, New Caledonia and Cook Islands taking the medals.

In a tough men’s competwition the Fiji team have made the final in the V6 1500m and 500m and the V12 event but have not been able to turn the finals appearances into podium places.

The final two days of Va’a are on Friday and Saturday when the medals for the men’s and women’s V1 and V6 marathons will be contested.
