6 Booked For Smoking In Public

Six men and women were caught smoking around the small Suva market kiosks yesterday. The six offenders were booked and given the Tobacco Control Fixed Penalty Notices.
Ministry of Health Tobacco Control Unit acting manager Nafiz Ali said the offenders were to pay their fines of $200 within 21 days to the Ministry of Health.
The ministry’s tobacco control and enforcement officers are monitoring the public who smoke in public places. All municipal market premises are no smoking zones and this applies to Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Korovou, and Labasa.
The Tobacco Control Unit is undertaking a three-week operation in Suva which started yesterday and the city health inspectors will also help in monitoring.
