The Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council has agreed to convert the Nadroga Navosa High School into a technical college.

This was revealed by Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy while responding to a question raised by Opposition member, Mikaele Leawere on a petition.

The petition, which was presented by Opposition member Viliame Gavoka, had asked the Government to review and rescind its decision to turn the Nadroga Navosa High School into a technical college.

“If they do not want it then fine we will look for another one but that will stop the children of Nadroga/Navosa attaining a quality form of education, but we will ensure that they will get it,” Mr Reddy said.

He said the technical college was to assist children who dropped out of school attain technical education which would help them later in life.

The petition has now been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs.
