Gold Win For Rodan, Taubakoa

Mere Rodan was lost for words after winning her first Pacific Games gold medal in table tennis Para women single sitting event.
The Koro, Lomaiviti native 48, was in cloud nine after beating PNG in three straight sets Rodan prevailed against Vero Paul Nime, like Iwakie Tumalas (11-3, 11-4, 11-3.
“I’m lost for words but I have been preparing well my aim is to come here and take the gold medal back to Fiji,”the mother of six said.
“I want to thank all my coaches, my family and Team Fiji for all their support,” Rodan said.
Rodan shared few experiences she had to go through during her preparation.
“When I want to go for training it was difficult because most of the drivers look at the wheelchair chair and refused to take us,” she added.
“My plan is to keep training and competing,” she said.
Other gold medal recipient was Rabi man Jokoboa Taubakoa who won in the para men’s single sitting event beating PNGa’s Iwakie Tumala to secure 11-1, 11-2, 11-6.
“I’m very happy. This is my first Pacific Games and winning a medal out of the best competitors was tough.” he said.
The win was a special one for the team as they played with wheelchairs not meant for the sport.
