15 Pay For Smoking

Fifteen people were last week fined for smoking and selling cigarette rolls at smoke free spots at the Suva Market and the Suva Bus Stand.

The Ministry of Health Tobacco Control Unit acting manager Nafiz Ali said this was those found in the act during their three- day operation that ended last Friday.

Thirteen of those caught were fined $200 each for smoking in smoke free spots, while the other two have been fined $1000 for selling cigarette rolls in their small kiosks near the Suva Bus Stand.

These offenders are entitled to pay their fines within 21 days or face court.

“The public should refrain from smoking in public places. We place zero tolerance on this and anyone found doing this will be taken to task,” Mr Ali said.

He said another operation would be held from Wednesday, July 15.
