Canadian resident Vishal Kumar, 26, is willing to help the nine-year-old student who was attacked while walking home from school last Tuesday.

Mr Kumar is originally from Fiji and he now lives in Surrey, Canada with his family.

“After reading this story it saddened me very much,” he said.

“When I think about the place (Fiji), I think of happy smiling people who willingly and selflessly help one another but after hearing the barbaric story of the rape; it just broke my heart.”

He said rape was a heinous crime but when it involved defenceless children it made it all the more worse.

“I have decided to try and help the girl out because anytime you can give back to the community, you should,” Mr Kumar said.

“Nothing is specific at the moment on how to help and what to give which is why I had to write in to the Fiji Sun after reading the report on-line.” Mr Kumar had asked the Fiji Sun for contact details of the girl’s family and he was referred to the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

“I am going to try to raise some money within the Fijian community here and send it over to the victim’s parents,” he said.

Mr Kumar said he had no sympathy for anyone capable of these actions and they should be given life sentences.

“I know majority of kids in Fiji walk to school and this story must have instilled fear in them and their families and this also saddens me,” he said.
