What happened:

Namosi outclassed Tailevu 40-5 in Round Eight of the Skipper Cup competition at Thomson Park, Navua yesterday.

Namosi got off to a good start, despite the rain and wet ground condition with Tanoa Sinata scoring in the 10th minute converted by Sakuisa Malai. Constant pressure on the Tailevu defence paid off when Risiate Tadulala scored in the 21st minute, converted by Malai for the hosts to lead 14-0.

The slippery and wet conditions made it hard for teams to control ball possession. Five minutes later, Aporosa Gavidi scored a try from a pick and drive which was again converted by Malai 21-0.

Tailevu managed to score through Meli Navaka.

Halftime: Namosi 21-5 Tailevu

Tailevu up the tempo in the second spell but Namosi managed to crack their defence in the 52nd minute through  Silivenusi Cavidi A few minutes later, Atunaisa Maione scored another try to further their lead, 35-5. Tailevu  made a lot of basic mistakes.

In the 70th minute, Watisoni Sevetia sealed the deal scoring the last try of the game 40-5.

Star turn: A spectacular performance by the Namosi team.

Big play:

Good show by the Namosi forwards who laid the platform for the win.

Comments:

Tailevu coach Jone Kaila said: “We tried our best but in the end Namosi was just two strong. But we still have a lot to work on and this will also benefit the boys as they are still developing. But overall I was happy with the way they played.”

Namosi assistant coach Digi Tali, “ I am very proud of the boys for their hard work. We are trying to build up our structure of play and today we did just that. The boys gave their 100 per cent which paid off with a bonus point.”
