R.C Manubhai Group of Companies has yet again set another benchmark as a corporate entity.

Last night, the company honoured its staff members who provided long, dedicated service to the organisation.

Also those who had been exemplary in attaining very high standards and results in their respective positions were rewarded.

This was the first time for the group to organise such awards and managing director, Dinesh Patel, congratulated all the award recipients.

“They say staff is the backbone of any organisation and the same holds true for us,” Mr Patel said.

“This is what we are here to recognise and celebrate your invaluable contribution to all the companies within our group.

“Like the soldiers in the frontline in any war, you are at the frontline of our businesses as well.

“Each one of you is an integral part of all our different operations and the success of RCM Group lies in the service you provide to each and every customer who walks in through our doors.

“There is no substitute for hard work and I wish to assure each one of you that, as long as you stay dedicated and honest in your work, your jobs are secure and we will stay committed to looking after your welfare.”

Humble beginnings

Mr Patel also reminisced his younger days and the humble beginnings which  helped make the man he is today in leading the family business.

“There has always been a misconception out there that businesspeople like us, were born with fame, fortune and luck. This is far from the truth,” he stressed.

“Along with the hard yards put in by our founding forefathers, we have had to put in our fair share over the years too.”

Mr Patel said they used to help out in the shop after school every day, clean potatoes and onions, load timber, cement and steel for deliveries on Sundays, do stock takes and so on.

“In our younger days, we would be lucky if we had six pence in our pockets,” he said.

“When we did, we used to go to the lolly factory just before it closed so that we could get a bag full of broken pieces of peanut lollies with our meagre spending money.

“I also remember my studying days in New Zealand when I took up tough holiday jobs to earn extra spending money. So, as you can see, nothing was given to us on a ‘silver plate”. Those were tough, but good old days which really shaped us into what we are today.”

Achievements

Mr Patel acknowledged the company’s achievements would not have been possible without the foundation laid by their forefathers.

They are the late Dahyabhai, Raojibhai, Manubhai & Chandra Kant Patel and the surviving family members – Ramanbhai and Jayantibhai Patel.

“It was their foresight, hard work and perseverance that we, the third generation, have taken inspiration from and our next generation will remember as they grow the Group in future years,” he said.

From humble beginnings, the R.C Manubhai Group of Companies has grown from a small grocery store in Korovuto, Ba, in the 1920s to being a household name in Fiji today.

The Group today comprises of:

–  R.C Manubhai & Co.Ltd: Nine Retail Outlets of Hardware & Building Materials
