SODELPA Starts 2018 Poll Focus.
  • Ro Teimumu leads meet-community events
  • Ratu Naiqama visiting USA to raise funds for the party
  • Most party supporters on social media live overseas

Well, it seems SODELPA has learned one thing from their humbling defeat in the 2014 General Elections, and the surprise they got – they have a lot of work to do to win the support of the people.

They have now started early. Teams led by various SODELPA members will today start the second phase of meeting-the-community events.

This is in fact their preparations underway, for the 2018 General Elections.

Their president and suspended Member of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, meanwhile is visiting the United States fundraising.

His trips overseas are similar to those made previously by former SDL prime minister Laisenia Qarase just before the 2014 elections under the guise of visiting family. He too had, it is believed, been actively raising funds for the SODELPA coffers.

This now begs the question, how much support is there for SODELPA in Fiji that their leaders apparently have to fly off overseas to raise funds?

You only have to look at social media to get an answer to that. SODELPA’s most vocal support comes from people living overseas, living in the past and out of touch with reality.

To their credit, it has to be said SODELPA members have also started raising funds locally. Over the weekend, one such event was held at $100 per ticket.

Ratu Naiqama has also held a series of meetings while in the US, attended church services and raised more funds hosted by the Fiji Indigenous Peoples Foundation.

This foundation was formed on the advice of Mr Qarase during one of his many trips to USA.

Back home, Party leader Ro Teimumu Kepa will be leading teams to Tailevu, Ra and other places in the Western Division for “consultations”. Four teams headed by various members will be out in rural areas today.

The year 2018 is not that far away. Someone in SODELPA has obviously realised that to have any chance of beating FijiFirst the hard work must start now.
