There has been a huge improvement in the Fiji Corrections Service during the two quarters of this year compared to the first two quarters of last year.

Corrections Commissioner Lieutenant- Colonel Ifereimi Vasu revealed this during their church service at the FMF Gymnasium at Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday. The service was to mark the end of the second-quarter for the year.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vasu said this was good, however they still needed to work harder and try to adapt to changes that may be implemented during the year.

“Our service was shaken a bit in the first quarter but we should know that as we go up and improve we should expect certain elements that will try to bring us down,” he said.

“There will be a lot of changes and I ask you all to accept these changes. The government is making development plans for the next five to 20 years so let’s work together for what we want our institution to be like in the next five to 10 years.”

The Commissioner commended his officers for what they had achieved in the first six months of the year and encouraged them to do better in the next two quarters.

Meanwhile, Corrections chaplain Reverend Josefa Tikonatabua also urged the officers to work together in uplifting their service of looking after inmates in Corrections centres.
