Milika Tuivanuavou won the second gold medal for Fiji in shot put at Sir John Guise stadium, Port Moresby on Monday.

Tuivanuavou recorded 14.59 metres beating favourites Taropi Tereapii of Cook Islands (14.31) and Tonga Ata Tuutafaiva  (13.03),

It was in the last attempt where the former Yat Sen Secondary School student defied all odds to win gold.

“My plan was to come here and do my best and I’m glad that I have achieved my target,” she said.

Tuivanuavou had recovery sessions yesterday and will compete in the triple jump tomorrow and long jump on Friday.

Tabakaucoro:  Do things right

Meanwhile, Pacific fastest man Banuve Tabakaucoro won his 100 metres race on Monday.

He finished with the fastest time in the heat of the night, 10.50 seconds.

“At the moment, we are trying to do things right. My focus now is to get through the semifinals and the final. I’m very happy with my performance.

“I’m very impressed with the tracks they’ve put out here. It’s a new track and very fast track too.

“The problem right now is the headwind that we’ve got here, but just keep our fingers crossed and looking forward to do everything right.”
